    Editorial and Definitions Governance

How Reality & Reason maintains versioned definitions

    1. Scope of Stewardship

Reality & Reason maintains versioned definitions and governance instruments. The Structural Dynamics Register is maintained and published at mkai.org.

The purpose of this stewardship is to provide a stable, reference-grade ontology for boards, researchers, and policymakers examining the institutional consequences of AI adoption. Unlike dictionary definitions which track general usage, the Register maintains normative definitions to support precise governance and audit functions.

    2. Independence & Funding

Reality & Reason is funded through licensing of instruments and commissioned briefings. We accept no sponsorship, advertising, or commercial partnership that grants editorial influence.

"To ensure citation stability for audit and compliance, term names and core definitions are pinned to version numbers. Updates are triggered by boundary condition adjustments or technological shifts, not commercial requests."

    3. Versioning Policy

To protect the integrity of citations in long-lived governance documents (such as risk registers and board minutes), Reality & Reason employs a strict versioning scheme (vYYYY.N).

    • Major Versions (YYYY): Incremented annually or upon significant methodology shifts. A major version change may introduce new terms or significantly restructure existing taxonomies.
    • Minor Versions (.N): Incremented for definitions updates, clarifications of boundary conditions, or instrument adjustments. Minor updates do not invalidate previous citations but provide increased precision.

Previous versions remain accessible in the archive to ensure that historical citations remain verifiable.

    4. Update Triggers

The Register is not updated based on user popularity or vendor preference. Updates are triggered only by:

    • New evidence demonstrating that a boundary condition requires adjustment.
    • Multiple independent practitioners reporting consistent patterns not captured by current diagnostic signals.
    • Technological changes that alter the structural basis of a dynamic (e.g., a shift in model architecture that eliminates a specific failure mode).
    • Peer-reviewed research presenting findings that conflict with a canonical definition.

    5. Roles & Responsibilities

    Founder

Responsible for the final editorial direction of the Register and the development of governance instruments. Holds the pen on definition stewardship.

    Reality & Reason Editorial Board

Reviews proposed updates against evidence thresholds and ensures independence from commercial influence.
